OLIVER IS A TORONTO BORN, TORONTO-BASED GUITARIST WHO HAS RECEIVED HIS BACHELORS WITH HONOURS IN MUSIC PERFORMANCE FROM TORONTO’S PRESTIGIOUS HUMBER COLLEGE.
DESPITE BEING EARLY ON IN HIS MUSICAL CAREER, Oliver HAS played at many fine establishments, including the Jazz Bistro, The ROM, The Aga Khan Museum, the Pilot, and has SHARED THE STAGE WITH SOME OF TORONTO'S FINEST, INCLUDING LORNE LOFSKY, Colleen Allen, Neil Swainson, Allison Au, TERRY CLARKE, Greg Makamian, REG SCHWAGER and George Koller, to name a few. IN HIS STUDIES HE HAS HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO STUDY WITH SOME OF THE WHO'S-WHO OF THE TORONTO MUSIC SCENE, INCLUDING REVERED EDUCATORS LIKE MARK EISENMAN, KELLY JEFFERSON, NANCY WALKER, KIRK MACDONALD, AND LORNE LOFSKY.
ON TOP OF HIS OWN PROJECTS, HE IS ALSO A SIDEMAN IN MANY OTHER GROUPS, BOTH RECORDING AND PERFORMING FOR THE CYMATICS COLLECTIVE, QLAB, DIAD, THE AARON BLEWETT VILLAGE BAND, AND HAS WORKED IN SEVERAL MUSICAL THEATER PRODUCTIONS.
Oliver feels equally comfortable in the small jazz clubs of Toronto as he does on the big stages, and his performances have been at clubs like The Jazz Bistro, The Pilot, The Tranzac Club, Restaurants like Ricarda’s and The Soho House, Museums like The R.O.M. and Aga Khan Museum, and even a Private Event at Queen’s Park!
HIS VERSATILITY ALWAYS BRINGS A DYNAMIC FLARE TO HIS PERFORMANCES, AND IN A RECENT RECITAL HIS ADJUDICATOR, CUBAN JAZZ PIANIST HILARIO DURAN, COMMENTED:
AS AN EDUCATOR, OLIVER HAS SEVERAL YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE AS A GUITAR TEACHER AT DIFFERENT SCHOOLS ACROSS THE GTA. OLIVER IS AN ENERGETIC TEACHER WHO LIVES BY THE MOTTO THAT EVERYONE HAS POTENTIAL AND CAN GROW MUSICALLY WITH DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT. HE SAYS: “I BELIEVE REGULARLY LISTENING TO MUSIC, ALONG WITH PRACTICING, IS ONE OF SINGLE BEST WAYS TO IMPROVE AS A MUSICIAN BECAUSE IT FUELS YOUR CREATIVE IMAGINATION! LISTEN TO GREAT MUSIC, HAVE A STRUCTURED PRACTICE ROUTINE, AND WATCH YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE!”
